Fun Motif Facts – Polka Dots Are Back!
Polka dots means round spots, large or small, that are printed in a regular pattern. In fashion, polka dots are usually only made for casual context. Most polka dots give a more playful image to the one who wears it. But sometimes there is an exception. We can see that very small black or blue and white dots still can be accepted as a classic style for formal occasions.

Getting Popular
How did polka dots become popular and have a place in fashion? In 1926 Miss America Norma Smallwood was photographed in a polka dots swimsuit. After that, in 1928 Minnie Mouse from Disney wore a polka dot dress and bow. In the 1940’s Frank Sinatra already mentioned this pattern in his first hit “Polka Dots and Moonbeams”. From there the popularity of this pattern continued, not only for clothes but also for house accessories. Polka dots really came to be the highest classic motif ever.

Back To Classic
There is not so much clear explanation why people call it a polka dots motif. But many people believe that it is related to the word “polka” which means “Polish woman” in Polish language or “pulka” in Czech language. People liked it and fell in love with the pattern. They started to wear it every fun night and even polka dancing became popular events.
