Working From Home As A Mom Content Creator, From Personal Shopper To Brand Collaboration

Quick Answer
I started as a blogger and affiliate marketer working from my mini home office. Today I use that same space as a small content studio for brand collaborations, sponsored and paid guest posts, link insertions, website ads and YouTube videos for Nasi en Stamppot and Twinkle So Bright. This article and this blog are also open for relevant paid collaborations, including sponsored mentions and paid link insertions that fit my audience. I know many people still have doubts about working from home. It can feel less prestigious, a bit asocial, hard to grow in and sometimes stressful. In this story I share why I chose to work from home, how my journey moved from personal shopper to affiliate marketer, and finally to long term brand collaborations.

I hope it helps you feel more confident and positive about creating your own version of a working from home life.

Why Working From Home

Working from home is not as scary as many people imagine. For women, wives and mothers like me, it is actually fun and very flexible.

Once my kids go to school, I have time to work. When they come back home, I can still look after them and be present in their daily stories. It is also practical and affordable. I do not have to pay office rent, hire a babysitter or always ask Opa and Oma to help with child care.

After I moved to the Netherlands I chose to become a full time mom. When my kids grew up and could play with their own toys, I decided to open my own company at home. As a migrant living abroad, I had many stories to share.

I started by writing my stories on Facebook and I noticed that friends and family loved to read them. That was the moment I thought, maybe I can create a blog as my playground.

Growing From Home. From Storytelling To Personal Shopper

From simple story writing, life in the Netherlands opened another door. Many people in Asia were interested in European products that did not exist in their countries. Suddenly I became a personal shopper for many people in Asia.

This profession allowed me to be together with my kids almost all the time. I took them with me to shop for special items, from supermarkets and drugstores to fashion stores that were hard to access from abroad.

From Personal Shopper To Affiliate Marketer

When my kids started school, life became more structured. They were away for several hours every day, which gave me more focused time at home.

At that point I wanted a more stable way of working from home. I turned my blog into a medium to work as an affiliate marketer. With my laptop in hand I could work from almost everywhere, even from a cafe or a corner of my living room. I wrote honest stories and product reviews, and the affiliate links were a way to support that work.

Why I Shifted Away From Affiliate Links

Over the years something changed in the online world. Privacy policies, cookie banners and data security rules became stricter. Visitors could easily say no to cookies. At the same time, some devices and browsers started blocking tracking by default.

For many affiliate marketers, including me, this meant that a lot of sales were no longer tracked correctly. The heart of my story was still the same, a mom working from home behind a laptop, but the model was not as promising anymore.

So I made a decision. Instead of focusing on chasing affiliate cookies, I decided to focus on long term content partnerships with brands.

Long Term Content Partnerships From A Mini Home Studio

I no longer work with traditional affiliate links that depend on cookies or tracking systems. Instead, I choose to work directly with brands and agencies through clear, paid collaborations. This can be sponsored articles, long term content partnerships or paid link insertions in existing blog posts that are relevant for my readers and transparent for everyone.
This blog post is also open for that kind of collaboration. If you would like your brand or link to appear in this specific article in a natural and useful way, you are welcome to contact me to discuss availability and rates.

Today I still work from home even though my kids are already old enough to go to and return from school by themselves. I still sit next to the same window, with the little hill and tiny river outside as my view.

The difference is my focus. Now it is on long term brand collaborations and content partnerships.

The goal is simple and clear. To build win win collaborations where:

  • brands get visibility, trust and warm storytelling
  • my audience gets honest, useful content that really fits real family life

I feel very blessed that I can do this work without being too busy outside all the time. It is still one of the best decisions I have made in my life.

I also use Twinkle So Bright on YouTube for more product focused and content focused videos.

Everything is created from the same mini office and home studio. This keeps costs efficient and the content personal and real.

My Mini Office, My Safe Creative Corner

In our house I built a mini office as my safe corner. This is the place where I write, test products and record simple videos.

Step by step, this mini office slowly became a mini studio for collaborations. I created a small photo corner and a simple background setup. Everything is still practical and fits real family life. I do not need a big studio to create content that feels warm and human.

What Is In My Mini Office

Here are the basics of my setup:

  • A compact desk near a big window
  • A comfortable chair that supports long working hours
  • A wireless printer and a few simple tech tools
  • One side wall with a green screen and some accessories, a good indoor photo and video spot

I like a simple and clean room. My walls are white, decorated only with paintings made by my kids. This keeps the space bright and personal.

If you like more color, you can paint your office in your favorite tone. Sometimes a simple color change is enough to cheer yourself up.

Stay Stylish, Even When Working From Home

Working from home makes it very easy to spend the whole day in pyjamas. I understand that some people enjoy that, but I am not that type. I like to treat myself as if I am going to a normal office and I choose to stay simple, pretty and stylish in my own way. So, I use a bit of makeup, at least lipstick, dress tidy and sometimes wear heels that match my clothes when it feels right.

On the wall I keep a mirror as a reminder to stay neat, like a lady in an office. It might sound small, but it helps me recharge my mood as a creative person.

Discipline And Consistency As Your Own Boss

Working from home does not mean I can start whenever I want just because I do not have a boss. I am my own boss, and that is exactly why I need discipline and consistency. I do not have to clock in or fill out time reports like in a corporate office, but I still need structure.

This what I put my schedule in my phone and set alarms for:

  • when I start work
  • when it is time for lunch
  • when I should finish

After my kids come home from school, I want to have a little talk with them about their day and help with homework. Structure makes this possible.

Focus And Productivity When You Work Alone

One of the hardest parts of working from home is keeping focus when you are alone. The house is full of little distractions.

I try to be strong and avoid things that disturb my concentration, like:

  • checking private social media every few minutes
  • watching random videos that are not part of my work
  • putting too many snacks on my desk and keeping my mouth busy

I choose to protect my focus and be productive, instead of throwing away time without noticing.

Make A Target And Climb Your Own Mountain

When I decided to open my own company, I understood something important. I am the boss and at the same time I am the employee.

I have to do everything by myself, from marketing and content creation to administration and planning my own targets.

Target planning is very powerful. It prepares me to climb my own mountains. I work hard toward my goals, not only to make my wallet thicker, but also for my own sense of pride. The best feeling is knowing that I am able to build something from home, slowly and consistently.

How To Turn Your Mini Home Office Into A Simple Content Studio

You do not need a huge space to start. Here is a simple guide to turn a corner of your home into a content studio.

  1. Choose A Bright Corner Near A Window

Pick a quiet corner in your house where natural light comes in. A window gives soft light for filming and taking photos without needing many lamps. Natural light is still one of the best friends of content creators.

  2. Use A Compact Desk And Comfortable Chair

You do not need a big office table. A compact desk and a good chair are enough to write, edit and record. Make sure you can sit comfortably for a few hours without pain in your back or shoulders.

  3. Create One Clean Wall As A Background

Choose one wall that stays clean and calm. You can: keep it white, add a simple painting, hang your kids art, like I do

  4. If you want more variety, add a green screen or a fabric backdrop that you can roll up when not in use.

  5. Keep Your Tech Simple But Ready

Start with what you have. A laptop, a basic camera or smartphone, a small tripod and a wireless printer are already a good foundation. Later you can add: a microphone for clearer audio, a softbox or ring light for darker days but you do not have to buy everything at once

  6. Plan Your Working And Filming Hours

Use your phone to set time blocks for writing, filming and editing. Working from home is easier when you have a clear plan, especially with kids and family life around you.

  7. Make It Personal And Inspiring

Add small items that make you happy, like photos, your favorite mug or a small plant.
Your mini office is not only a workspace, it is your creative corner where new stories, ideas and collaborations are born.
