Nike Pro Hijab: Revolutionising Sports

Sport is a right for everyone in the world, including Muslim females. However, there has been a classic problem for females who were doing sports to find a comfortable and lightweight headpiece. Luckily, Nike Pro designers saw this need and interest growing up over the years. In December 2017, Nike released the Pro Hijab line, which brings a game-changer for female Muslim sports enthusiasts. Nike Pro designers created base layers for women, and it inquires into how to make a good hijab performance. The resulting Pro Hijab line has been very successful. According to fashion search engines, the interest in this headpiece has been steadily growing.

What is Hijab?

For those who don’t know what a hijab is, it is a scarf that covers the hair and neck. The hijab generally refers to various head coverings worn by (many) Muslim women. Refers to the Islamic idea, Hijab means to cover. It is used to cover “aurat” or, namely religious law that covers certain parts of the body for both men and women.

Statistics from Sport England show that only 18% of Muslim women take part in regular sports. While it should grow compared to 30% of the total female population in the world. So that’s why Nike said the Pro Hijab will help to make sports a more inclusive space for Muslim women. Nike’s hijab-wearing model calls on brands to better represent Muslim women. I think more brands need to come on board anyway to support this good movement.

Nike Pro Hijab 2.0 is an updated version of the original Nike Pro Hijab. It was designed specifically for Muslim females and collaborated with Muslim athletes. Nike wants to address the specific needs of hijabi athletes or non-athletes and provide both comfort and performance.

Nike designers modify the traditional hijab to suit champion sports women seriously. They make hijab out of lightweight polyester fabric that is stretchy and adjustable, allowing the athlete to adapt the garment to fit their head and their sport. This polyester features tiny holes that make it breathable, but it remains completely opaque. It is cut and optimised for active movement or sport and designed to fully cover your head and neck. The hijab has an interior strap that helps prevent it from slipping as you move.

You can stay active in the Nike Pro Hijab. The soft mesh construction can be sweat-wicking for optimal breathability and cool feelings. A simple and sleek design with minimal seams to reduce irritation and maximize comfort.
