Why Fathers Matter More Than We Say

Every man can have children, but not every man can be a father

Being a parent is not easy. I’m grateful we have a special day to remind us how blessed we are to have both a father and a mother. Every parent loves their children sincerely, from the heart. It’s always nice to give our parents special attention on their special day, because it’s good to show how grateful we are, and to honour how well they raised us.

I believe that on Mother’s Day, we all did our best to spoil our mothers. And now, this month, it’s time to honour the man who always takes care of us. We call him “father” , the most special man, chosen by God to protect and lead his family.

A Reliable Symbol

There are countless stories and legends that portray the character and sacrifices of mothers. Fathers, on the other hand, often stand quietly in the background, and sometimes, they seem to be forgotten.

Most fathers may not take on the nurturing roles like mothers do, but they provide the solid foundation behind the scenes.
Do you remember your father running beside you as you learned to ride a bike?
Or how he was rarely home not because he didn’t care, but because he worked hard to provide for the family?

A father is always there, standing strong to support and guide his loved ones.

Fathers are the reliable pillars in a family, holding up the structure. Just as important as mothers, fathers are generally seen as providers and protectors. They may not always be visible, but their presence is deeply felt and essential to shaping who we are.
From fathers, children learn about strength, confidence, leadership, and courage.

Father’s Day

The celebration of Father’s Day began on June 19, 1910, in Washington. Sonora Smart Dodd, the daughter of a single father, was the first to start this tradition. She believed that fathers deserved just as much respect and appreciation as mothers, and she was right.

I’m grateful that Sonora Smart Dodd brought this idea to life. For me personally, my father shaped the way I see the world today. He taught me how to stand strong and move forward with confidence.

This year, the Netherlands celebrates Father’s Day on June 15, 2025. If you’re wondering how to celebrate, I’ve included some inspiration in this post. Click the images or links to buy. Let’s take the time to express our love.

I’m proud of my father. My children are proud of theirs.
And I know, you can be proud of yours, too.

This Year’s Celebration: A Day in the Trees

This year, instead of doing something fancy, we chose something even more meaningful: time together.
Papa took the lead and brought us to a climbing forest, not to show off how strong he is, but to be present with us, share laughter, and create memories among the trees.

Sometimes, a father doesn’t ask for anything. He just shows up.
He leads while we climb, just like he holds the family together, quietly, faithfully, with a love that doesn’t always need words.

Happy Father’s Day to all the great dads. You are seen, loved, and never forgotten.

Watch how we celebrated Father’s Day this year, full of trees, ropes, laughter, and love:
